There is no denying that Steve Martorano, owner of Martorano’s inside Rio Las Vegas, brings Italian-American fare to Las Vegas, and he does it right. At Martorano’s, things are done a little differently. Martorano’s edgy, family-style Italian cooking leaves you swooning. Beyond the untraditional atmosphere, Martorano and his staff of chefs and waiters will take good care of you. The Philadelphia native, who has another restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., serves refreshingly honest fare. Pastas are cooked al dente and the tomato sauces are made from premium San Marzano tomatoes. These smaller, pointier, less-acidic tomatoes contain a thick flesh and few seeds with a sweeter flavor that is great for sauces. Martorano’s food is well seasoned, bold and affectionately created. The portions are huge, so you’ll get your money’s worth ordering family-style. Favorite dishes include the meatball salad, eggplant stack, Downtown Chicken Cutlet, Philly cheesesteak and Rigatoni Sunday Pork. Get a little messy and chow down on a Homemade Lasagna. Don’t forget to enjoy the restaurant’s signature drinks like the Dean Martin Martini or Strawberry & Basil Martini.
